„Read for your Life“ is the name of the English book club that has started this school year (2018/19) at the BG|BRG Purkersdorf.
Seven students with high abilities and a passion as well as an interest for reading, not only for fun but also for reading between the lines, analysing, discussing etc. aspects, characters, plots, themes, motifs, symbols of books, take part in this book club. Together with their teacher, they meet up once a month to exactly do the above mentioned.
… to read as many books as we can!
… to read books
… to analyse and discuss them
… to recommend (or not) the books
How do we do that?
Once a month, there is a meeting in which we discuss the book of the month that is one of the genres of YA novels. On this blog, a blog post about said book will be published. Each and every student will – in the course of this book club – also find a special field in the YA genre that he/she is particularly interested in. That can be an author, a subgenre, a special character type etc. – the goal is to read books concerning that special field, compile a portfolio about it with notes, thoughts and last but not least the recommendations. Those will be carefully, thoroughly written and then uploaded by the two teachers in charge.
Our utmost wish?
… to share our passion for reading!
“Have you really read all those books in your room?”
Alaska laughing- “Oh God no. I’ve maybe read a third of ‘em. But I’m going to read them all. I call it my Life’s Library. Every summer since I was little, I’ve gone to garage sales and bought all the books that looked interesting. So I always have something to read.”
